Sunday, another day of unpredictable weather, saw the majority of Swindon players aged 12-15 compete for a new trophy - the Annual Junior 7-a-side Club Tournament.
The three mixed teams played each other twice, with intensive play during the 10 minute games. There was little room for errors and teams quickly discussed tactics and effective positioning. The goalkeepers Jack, Toby and Violet, played a hand in all the games by themselves rotating within the teams and being thoroughly tested on penalty shuffles. These were implemented instead of penalty corners and proved highly entertaining. A bonus point was available for scoring 3 goals or more and this was achieved by the Red team with Rhys Baker scoring a hat-trick.
After each game, the players voted for the 'most valuable player' (MVP) in each opposing team and nominations were: Sasha, Eleanor, Evie, Seb M, Toby, Emma, Arthur, Sarah, Faith & Grace. In the end the Orange team came out as winners but by only one point. All in all, it was a very enjoyable morning and again, great to see the players enjoying themselves.
Thanks to Doug, Steve, Gav, Nathan and Kerry for all helping out either as officials, managers and photographer! Full results can be seen below.
More awards will be given out at the final training session on the 26th May but in the meantime the u14 mixed teams prepare for their final tournament next Saturday against Corsham, Marlborough and RWB. Also on the same day in the morning, Adriana is running a Junior and Senior fun event, with a possible 37 junior players attending!!
